Centennial Park in Smiths Falls had become underused. The Town's existing waterfront public changeroom building was in a state of disrepair and was due for replacement.
Counselor Dawn Quinn asked Canning Greenworks Studio for a new building vision that would encourage boaters and other tourists to stop and shop in the downtown core.
Canning Greenworks Studio collaborated with Monolith Architectural Models for developing a conceptual model for the Rideau Heritage Center, Centennial Park, Smiths Falls.
The Center could be a unique landmark that celebrates green architecture and central waterfront greenspace in the Heart of the Rideau Canal. The Heritage Center would also support programming such as Christmas in the Park.
The space would feature a cafe, waterfront patio and outdoor art, theater and music stage for private and public events. Iconic Rideau Canal lock gate elements would be incorporated into the design.
